The Manager on his new left back
NAC Breda and Aberdeen this evening reached an agreement on the loan of Greg Leigh.
The 24-year-old defender will play in the SPFL Premiership this season, after which time Aberdeen and the player will have the opportunity to make the move to the North-east of Scotland permanent.
Manager Derek McInnes spoke to RedTV from the Dons pre-season training camp in Cork.
“First and most importantly, we have got a very good player.
“He is a player we have been aware of for a while.
“Last summer we were looking to bring a left back in and Greg was one of a few we were considering.
“Again in January when it looked as if we had lost Max back to Derby, Greg was someone who we were quite far down the line with.
“What we are getting is a player with quite a bit of versatility because he can play left of a three, he can play left back which is predominantly his main position, he has also played at left wing back.
“He gives us a bit of athleticism, good size, and decent experience for someone who has still got all his best years ahead of him.
“With all the conversations we had with Greg throughout the summer, he asks the right questions. He is very careful about his career and he sees Aberdeen as the right move.
“There were a number of clubs who were keen to take Greg back to England but having the conversations that we did with him, and selling the club and telling him what we are trying to do here, we felt that he bought into that fairly early on.”
