“So far, I am enjoying it a lot. The results have gone our way which always helps. We are building something and everyone can see the progress we are making.
“Managers make decisions and at this moment in time I’ve got the shirt and I want to keep that.
“I knew coming up the road that I was going to challenge Joe and I was hoping to play, the same as before. He’s always hoping to play, that’s how football works, that’s the aim of the game.
“No one is guaranteed a start in football matches. It is all about performances. That is the only thing I can control.
“I’ve been in a lot of dressing rooms over my career, and it feels very good so far. Everybody is trying to help each other, there’s a good diversity in age, there’s a good diversity in nationalities.
“It’s a really international dressing room at this moment in time, which is new for me, although I’m international myself. I think there is a good balance between experience and younger players, I think we knit together very well. The trip to Spain helped a lot, gave us a good chance to get to know each other.
“I’m always big on bringing clean sheets to football clubs, this is what I’m trying to build now with my back four, with my midfielders and try to create a bit of culture, that everyone cares about that.
“It starts with the wide players, they need to press the right way. I’m quite vocal, I like to lead, I know in the last couple of games I haven’t been the busiest one on the pitch.
“I’ve lost my voice in every single one because there is only one ball that needs to fall the right way for the team and it might cause us some trouble. I think I can hurt teams from behind if they press us too much so I’m quite versatile in the way I can perform.
“I did a lot of research before I came to the club, to get an understand of what makes it tick. Obviously Theo Snelders’ name came up straight away. I know that he was a legend here, so big boots to fill. I have not met Theo but I have heard he comes over for some of the games, so it was great if I got the chance to meet him.”
