Michael Ruth, Development player of the Year last season, signed a contract extension on Saturday and also agreed to join Championship side Arbroath on loan. This week he spoke to RedTV:

“I am delighted to get my new deal signed. I got a phone call off my agent and we got it signed last week. It was a quick turnaround with getting the new deal and also getting the loan deal sorted. I am happy to get them both done.

“It was a no brainer to get the deal done. I have been loving it here and to get the chance to go out on loan as well I am delighted with that.

“To get out on loan and play in the Championship, which is of a good standard this year, I am excited about.

“I will train with my new teammates for the first time this week.

“Miko was on loan with them last season and did really well and is on loan again this season so he has been telling me all about them and about the gaffer, I am excited for it.

“I have had a quick chat with Dick Campbell, and I am looking forward to chatting with him more and meeting the rest of the boys and to get going.

“It is huge for my development to get out on loan this season. Playing against men in the first team week in week out, I will learn a lot more, it will be a lot more intense. I am looking forward to playing at grounds like Tynecastle this year.

“The Championship will be a challenge for me, but I am confident that I can go in and give it my best shot.

“I have a few personal goals in my head that I want to reach, and I want to get as many goals as I can and help the team as much as I can.

“I will be training with Aberdeen and Arbroath so I will still get the benefit of full-time football and still improve in that way.

“Miko has warned me about how windy Gayfield can be! I will be wrapping up when I go down there!”
