“I’m so happy to be here and to be part of the squad. Everybody gave me a good welcome except the weather! The first day in training, the weather was crazy, a little bit different than Holland! But the guys took me in as one of their own and we had a really good session.
“It was nice to step on the field finally, and the boys made me feel amazing. It’s nice to meet the new guys and to see that they really try to help you. You’re always a little bit nervous when you go to a new club and things are unfamiliar but if you want to build a career, sometimes you need to move between clubs and go into a new dressing room. It’s exciting to try something new here.”
“I started at my amateur club, FC Purmerend, where I grew up in Amsterdam and then went to Ajax when I was eight or nine. I was in the youth system there until I was 14.
“I went to Go Ahead Eagles and trained with the first team from 17. I made my debut when I was 19 there and became the first choice goalkeeper and got promoted to the Eredivisie with them in 2021. When we got promoted, we played 38 games in the season and we had 25 sheets which was amazing, to set that record.
“Then I moved back to Ajax one and a half years ago, played some games in the first team there and now I am here. Erik Ten Hag signed me at Ajax. He was the best coach I’ve played for, he has such amazing detail in a technical way, but also very good in a personal way, how everything was sorted. For the team, when he was the gaffer was just amazing.
“Coming to a new country to play for the first time is going to be different. Dutch football is a different kind of style of football to this country I think, but for me to step out of my comfort zone is good. I think as a young player, to take those kinds of opportunities is only going to make you more comfortable in your life and in your career, so I’m really looking forward to it.
“Now we have to get to work.
“I saw the league table of where the team is standing and of course we want to finish up higher. I think the team is in a position now that’s not what we want, at all. That’s a team goal, to step up the table. My personal goal in those four or five months that I’m on loan is to do as much as possible for the team, help them to get more clean sheets and points. I want to play as much as I can and show my passion for the team I’m playing for right now.”
