Leighton Clarkson | Hearts Preview
Leighton Clarkson was the player who spoke to the media this week at Cormack Park:
“We have had a good couple of weeks at Cormack Park. Hopefully the international break will have been beneficial.
“We have been training well. We have had a lot of time on the training pitch and spent time together off the pitch. We have got players from different nationalities that have come in that are trying to settle both on and off the park.
“Some of the new lads they are still looking for homes and are not with their families again yet. So that must be hard for them and is something that the other boys in the dressing room having been helping with.
“We need to get them up to speed tactically with how we want to play so it does take time. It takes time gel. But a lot of other teams will be doing the same so we need to start picking up points.
“It’s a good chance for us on Saturday. They are a very good team but we need to go there and get a win or a positive result under our belt and perform well. In every game you want to try and stay calm. They will pose a threat and we know what they are but we also know where we can try and hurt them and will do everything in the 90 mins to win it.
“The two points we picked up away are probably two good points over the season but we have just not managed to get that win that we want. But we have got Saturday to try and change that.
“Football is based on momentum and when you have that you feel good going into every game. Although it has not been the best start we are still positive. We know what we have to do having set out our goals at the start of the season and I am sure we will get there.
“It definitely has not been the start we hoped for but it is a marathon and not a sprint.
“We have lots of games up until Christmas and after Hearts on Saturday we have our European tie, another league game and then the league cup game. It is nice playing in all the different competitions but as the gaffer will always say we will focus on the next one.
“My own form, I obviously feel it could be better. The second half of last season, I hit some form and felt my game was quite consistent.
“I still want to improve and get more goals and assists.
“That’s part of my game and is something I have always tried to do from youth level by getting a good connection with the strikers.
“I’ve got a good relationship with Duk and Bojan, especially in the last six months and it is just about continuing that. It’s also about getting to know Ester and Pape as well so I am working on that with them as it is something that needs to be good.”
