we need to keep pushing
A third win on the spin for Aberdeen left manager Jimmy Thelin in positive mood when he spoke to the press after the game.
“It was a nice win at home, in front of our supporters, and it’s always good when you win more or less with the last chance of the game. We don’t plan to win in the last minute, but it’s good to have this spirit.
“It’s important for someone like Oday when they get to a new club, if you can score early, it helps. But there are also other things that are important for a striker, to contribute to victories as a team, to win games.
“You could feel the atmosphere at Pittodrie before the game also, when we arrive, and during the game, and the last game also at Dundee, how they keep pushing and we keep believing together. It’s a long season and we have to stay together and try to achieve the goals we have.
“It is nice to see the faces of our supporters and the players when you get these wins, but we all know it is still tight in the table. We have high expectations and ambitions for the season, so we need to keep pushing. But you have to celebrate the small victories and then recover to go for the next game.
“It was a difficult game to play, there’s a lot of start-stop, and it’s difficult to get the rhythm going. So how we won the game in the end was really good to see. When the games opened up a little bit in the last 20 minutes, I feel like we’re pushing more and more and more and finally we won. It’s good for Oday to get this goal at home, in front of our supporters, and get him going.”
Dimitar Mitov returned to the side after injury, and Jimmy explained his thinking behind the switch between the posts.
“Ross has done really well, but I think the game today was good for Dimi, how he’s really good against a lot of set-plays, really strong in this area, coming out and helping in the back line. They’re different profiles, Ross has also been really good for us, but today we think the game was better for Dimi.”
Skipper Graeme Shinnie rolled backs the years with a performance at left-back after he injury to Jack MacKenzie and Nicky Devlin.
“There are also a lot of situations for the backline in these kind of games. Second balls, first contact duels, and strong strikers, so he did really well with how he blocked the crosses, how he arrived in the build-up, he had some good combinations. He’s a clever player and a good leader.”
