Special tribute for Jimmy Calderwood this weekend
This Sunday, Dunfermline Athletic will be welcomed to Pittodrie for the Scottish Cup fifth-round tie. A pre-match tribute display in honour of former Aberdeen and Dunfermline manager Jimmy Calderwood will be held in the Richard Donald Stand, with commemorative items available for supporters to take home as souvenirs.
Jimmy Calderwood’s tenure is remembered fondly by many fans, characterised by unforgettable moments, particularly in European competitions. Notably, Aberdeen’s qualification for the UEFA Cup group stages after a memorable trip to Dnipro with 400 travelling supporters marked a significant achievement. Matches such as the impressive 4-0 victory over FC Copenhagen, supported by a spirited atmosphere at Pittodrie, stand out in the club’s European history, evoking memories reminiscent of their successes in 1983. Despite a valiant effort against Bayern Munich, including a memorable 2-2 draw at Pittodrie, Aberdeen’s resurgence on the European stage under Jimmy Calderwood was evident.
Throughout his tenure, Aberdeen supporters demonstrated unwavering dedication, generating vibrant atmospheres both domestically and abroad.
The club is now calling on the Red Army to unite once more this Sunday, supporting the team as they strive to progress in the Scottish Cup. Tickets for the Dunfermline Athletic match can be purchased online at afc.co.uk/eTickets, from the Pittodrie Ticket Office, or by calling 01224 63 1903.
