MacDonald Moves On
Defender Angus MacDonald has left the Club to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Signed on a short-term contract after leaving Swindon Town in the January 2023 transfer window the experienced defender made his debut for the Dons on the 1st of February 2023 against St Mirren.
“Angus is at the point in his career where he needs to play regularly and at this moment in time his opportunities here are limited”, said Dons boss Jimmy Thelin.
“His contributions, both on and off the pitch, during his time at Aberdeen have been significant, and he was a proud supporter and ambassador for AFC Community Trust where he became a role model for many youngsters who work with the Trust.
“We would like to wish Angus the best of luck with his future career and thank him for his effort and professionalism during his time here.”
Originally playing alongside Mattie Pollock and Liam Scales in a back three, Angus very quickly made a positive impact on the team. He went on to help Barry Robson’s side finish third in the SPFL Premiership in 2022/23 and qualify for European Group stage football.
The central defender made 50 appearances for Aberdeen in total and scored two goals – one of which was a memorable strike against HJK Helsinki in the UEFA Europa Conference League. His other goal was in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden.
Everyone at AFC wishes Angus all the very best with his future career.
