Okkels Opts for Pittodrie Loan Move
Our first signing of the 2025 January Window is Danish winger Jeppe Okkels, who has joined on loan from Preston North End.
The 25-year-old former Elfsborg player will reunite with Jimmy Thelin for the remainder of the season, with the Dons also having an option to buy.
“Jeppe is someone we know well and is a player with a strong pedigree so we are delighted he has opted to join us at Aberdeen”, said Dons boss Jimmy Thelin.
“He is a good finisher, who will bring a goal threat and provide real quality to our midfield options with his technical ability.
“He has had a frustrating period, however, he is a good character and with the fight and determination he shows we are sure he will be a positive addition to the squad.
“We continue to look at ways in which we can strengthen the squad to bring more energy for the remainder of the season.”
Thelin signed the former Danish youth international from Silkeborg in 2020 and he had three years with him in Sweden, where Jeppe scored 29 goals and provided 16 assists in 118 appearances.
Okkels netted 11 goals in 30 games in the 2023 league season for Elfsborg in his final campaign: earning a move to Utrecht last January.
A promising start in the Netherlands was curtailed by an injury and just a few months into his contract, the winger moved to England with Championship side Preston North End paying a significant fee for him.
In total Okkels has made three starts for PNE and 10 appearances, including against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
The Dons new winger spoke to RedTV a short time ago.
He said: “I’ve been waiting for this opportunity. It’s good to get here to meet the boys and I’m excited to get going.
“It was really important to get this done quickly. I want to come here and help the team so the sooner I could be here the better and I’m just looking forward to this opportunity.
“I know the manager well, what he expects and how he sees football so I think it will be a good fit. He is hard working, calm and focussed on the journey so I only have good things to say.
“It’s important I get game time but I think that’s a good mix. I hope I will bring some quality, get some time on the pitch and make an impact.”
