I want to stand by it again: There is some serious character in the group | Reaction from Emily Kraft
After her match winning heroics at Foundation Park on Sunday for AFC Women, on-loan striker Emily Kraft reflected on an important victory on the road for the group, with the Irish striker keen to reinforce the character shown in her teammates that allowed them to come from a goal behind for the second time in two games.
“I think that was a well-deserved team effort win. We all put in the fight and we’re definitely all buzzing for the three points. We went down 1-0 again due to little mistakes that we need to fix up and work out to not let that happen again. But again after the game I am really proud of the girls—how quick we actually did get back into it. And then we just took that momentum into the second half so we could secure the win and the three points.”
“I want to stand by it again: There is some serious character in the group. Well done to the girls because I don’t even know how many minutes it took, but we got back in it straight away. It says a lot about the girls and the characters we have in our squad.”
It could have been a more comfortable affair for the Dons with the amount of chances accumulated in the second half – it looked like Emily had found the net earlier in the contest, the officiating team deciding otherwise despite her effort looking like it had maybe creeped over the line.
“Honestly, I wish I could say yes. I don’t know. It’s one of them where, unfortunately, I have to say I’m not sure. It would have been nice if it did, but then again, you never know how the game turns out if that would have been the case. So I’m happy with the way it turned out to be, even if I have to settle for the one goal!”
“I think we needed the three points today. We’ve had a rough start at the beginning of the season, with everything going on. I think now, with the momentum, I think we’re getting going now. We’re starting to figure out what our strengths are and how we can play well as a team together. It’s an exciting few months ahead now, and I’m really looking forward to what the girls are gonna bring to the league.”
The challenges keep coming for the side with the visit of a strong Hearts side on Sunday.
“I think last time we played against Hearts, we had a real good fight about us. We showed what we can do. Unfortunately, it didn’t last for the 90 minutes, which it needs to going forward. But if we put in the work, if we put in the effort—which I have no doubt we will—I believe in us. It’ll be hard work but we’re definitely look forward to it.”
