Scott Anderson Reaction to Aberdeenshire Shield Defeat
Scott Anderson gave his reaction after an Aberdeen Development side were defeated by Inverurie Locos in the Aberdeenshire Shield last night at Harlaw Park:
“Obviously, it’s disappointing. It is a real kick in the teeth at the end there. I think we paid a harsh price for missing the opportunities we did. We just weren’t sharp enough in certain moments. You miss opportunities like the ones we did, and then we give away two soft goals. and then they get that bit of luck with their goal.
“It’s a bad combination, unfortunately. But the players obviously need to learn from this. In my opinion, we should have put the game out of sight. We had plenty of chances. But if you don’t take them, you’re going to pay for it.
“We need to make better decisions in those moments. When it’s three-on-one, you’ve got to score. There’s no “ifs” or “maybes”—it has to be a goal. And then, when you’re a few minutes from the end, you have to recognize where the game is at. You know, deal with the ball in the middle of the pitch, and then stay on our feet inside the box.
It is a harsh lesson.
“It is definitely a missed opportunity. I think we did a lot right in the game. We started well and made some changes around half time to adjust things. It took us a bit to settle again in the second half, but overall, we did a lot right. It just came down to the vital things: putting the ball in the net and keeping it out of ours.
