Young Goalkeeper Commits to the Dons
Aberdeen goalkeeper Rodrigo Vitols has this week signed a contract extension, keeping him at the Club until at least 2027.
Born in Scotland to Latvian parents, he grew up in Fraserburgh and as a youngster played with juvenile club Fraserburgh Link-up before joining the AFC Youth Academy. The 17-year-old came in full-time at Cormack Park the summer before, and last season played a major part in helping Aberdeen win the Club Academy Scotland U18 League and also get to the SFA Youth Cup Final.
He has also been capped at U17 level by Latvia.
The youngster will continue to work with first team keepers Dimitar Mitov, Ross Doohan and Tom Ritchie.
Commenting on his renewed deal with the Dons, Rodrigo said:
“The contract extension is a proud moment not only for myself but for my family. All of the travelling that my parents put in throughout the Youth Academy. It’s not just a reward for me, it’s a reward for them and a thanks for all their efforts behind the scenes.
“I’ve been at the Club for around nine years now but the hard work keeps on going. I am looking to pushing myself as a player and try to get more involved with the first team squad.
“Between now and the end of the season I want to perform the best I can and perform 110% in every game.”
The development squad are back in action against Inverurie Locos on Tuesday 12th November in the Aberdeenshire Shield. The match at Harlaw Park kicks-off at 7.45pm.
