Reaction from Hannah Stewart following victory in the cup
A double from a jubilant Hannah Stewart ensured Aberdeen Women comfortrably secured their place in the next round of the Sky Sports Cup with victory over Gartcairn at the Balmoral Stadium on Sunday, with the Dons running out 2-0 winners.
The skipper shared her thoughts on a good days work for her side:
“We played really well today. We dominated large parts of that game, we dictated the play, and we were unlucky not to get a few more goals. However we leave with a clean sheet, two goals, and a place in the next round, so we are happy.”
“I’m really happy to grab a couple of goals. I set myself a target at the start of the season, and I’m at four now, so there is no better feeling that scoring, so to get two it is great, and to contribute for the team it is even better. I can’t complain!”
“A clean sheet is massive. That is probably one of the most pleasing parts about todays performance, that we defended really well, we limited them to just a few chances. We defended as a unit, so that is so pleasing.”
“I said to the girls before the game: Just enjoy it. It is a game that we are going to have a lot of the ball in so enjoy it, because it doesn’t happen often in the league. I think you saw we did that, and its got us through to the next round.”
“I am looking forward to the quarter-final. There is a lot of good teams left, but you never know. You can go on a cup run and carry that momentum into the league. Sunday’s game is going to be totally different, but we need to take that momentum into it. The girls are buzzing in there, so that is something we need to bring with us on Sunday.”
