Scotland International Kevin Nisbet is Aberdeen’s new number nine.

The 27-year-old has joined on loan from EFL Championship side Millwall for the 2024/2025 season, subject to international clearance.

Should that clearance arrive in time, the striker will go straight into the squad for Sunday’s Premiership match against Kilmarnock at Pittodrie.

The move to the North-east progressed quickly for the forward but he didn’t need much time to think it over. He said: “As soon as I knew Aberdeen were interested, it was a no brainer to be honest. I did have options down south and with other teams in Scotland but the way the team have started the season, I wanted to get involved.

“This is a massive Club. It’s one that makes an impression on you and I want to be part of that.

“I spoke to the gaffer and listened to his philosophy and his plans. I was impressed with his style of play and I believe it suits me. It is an exciting project that I want to be part of and I am ready to give it my all for the fans.”

Nisbet started his professional career with Partick Thistle and made his senior debut in the SPFL Premiership when he came on as a substitute away to Ross County in September 2015.

Prior to making his Jags debut, he had already enjoyed a development loan at East Stirlingshire, and the then teenage Nisbet would get more game time with temporary spells at both Ayr United and Dumbarton.

He left Thistle in the summer of 2018 to join Raith Rovers, a move that sparked his career into life. His time in Kirkcaldy was prolific – he scored an incredible 34 goals in all competitions, prompting a move to Fife rivals Dunfermline the following summer.

He continued the same form he had shown the previous season, netting 23 goals in 32 games for the Pars and would likely have had more, had it not been for the premature end of that campaign due to the Covid19 pandemic.

57 goals in two seasons were always going to attract interest from elsewhere, and Premiership side Hibernian beat off competition from both sides of the border to sign him in the summer of 2020. The step up in level wasn’t an issue though and Nisbet was again amongst the goals, hitting 18 in his debut season in Edinburgh.

That form saw him rewarded with his first Scotland call up and he made his international debut in a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands in March 2021. He would then follow that with his first International goal, coming off the bench to score in just three minutes to put Steve Clarke’s side 2-1 up against the Netherlands. He was rewarded with a spot in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.

He continued his goalscoring form for Hibs, almost 40 in 101 matches, which prompted Millwall to pay a significant fee for him last summer. Injury has hampered his first season in England, but now he’s back on familiar soil and looking to continue where he left off in Scottish football.

“Kevin is a fantastic addition for us. His appetite and desire to come to Aberdeen and be part of what we are building here was really pleasing”, said Dons boss Jimmy Thelin.

“He is a proven goalscorer, with a particularly impressive scoring rate here in Scotland, and he’ll further strengthen our squad, providing healthy competition in the forward areas.

“He also has all the personal attributes we look for in a player and we believe his energy will have an instant impact with our supporters.”
