Aberdeen Women interim head coach Stuart Glennie was delighted with his sides response to a difficult start to the season that saw them defeat local rivals Montrose 2-0 on Wednesday night at the Balmoral.

“It has been a busy few days, but that’s why we are here. We are here because we want to do well for the football club. It has been a difficult start for them, so we wanted to support them. Tonight, I am delighted for them. It has been a difficult few weeks, so to come and do what they did tonight was excellent.”“As it is with any of the part time teams, and with the start that they had, it was always going to be difficult with games against Rangers and Hibs. Games like tonight are the games we have to compete in and win, so the way they have trained with not much time, and to take on board what we wanted them to do, it is good. Even coming here tonight you could see they were tense before the game, but they have come out and kept a clean sheet, and got the win, so it is great.”

“Getting the clean sheet is great. It is small margins. Megan has a great save at 0-0, and from then on we looked comfortable, so that save was huge. They came out in the second half and we were a bit lucky with one of their chances that went just past the post, so we probably score against the run of play, but from then on we done well. It was difficult with the wind. The back four was excellent tonight. Losing the goals they have done, the fact they stood up tonight, made tackles, headed the ball… they were excellent.”“I think it is about relishing these games. Nobody wants to lose the goals we have done, but we have to think when we defend well, we have players that can be a threat going forward. We realise against the full-time teams it is different, but you have to take confidence from games like tonight, and see it as an opportunity to compete and do what you can, but it is all about the games like tonight against the part-time teams, and making sure you take care of those ones.”

“We wanted Emily to stay central in the first half, and she did that. Her hold up play was really good. She grew in the game as she went on. It was excellent.
