Peter Leven was back in the dugout for his side’s trip to Easter Road and was delighted to see his side ride out a tricky start to the game to come away with a comprehensive 4-0 win.

“The first 20 minutes annoyed me a little bit. We got dragged all over a little bit and we started following them into spaces where we don’t want to go. Obviously, they’ve got good players but we just need a wee bit more discipline. When we’re on it and we pass the ball and move it at speed, we’re a top team. We’ve showed that today. I’m delighted with the clean sheet again. In the last two games, we’ve won 1-0, 1-0 and should have scored more, and today we’ve done that.”

The scoring was started by Leighton Clarkson, who took some pre-match advice to heart.

“I said to Leighton before the game, ‘You need to shoot more.’ He gets into these positions and he looks for that little pass, but he’s got a great right foot. What a player he is. I want to take the shackles off him in possession. Go on and excite me, go on and enjoy it and then, out of possession, he works hard as well. He’s been fantastic. He’s so bright and that’s something that Fletcher Boyd could learn off as well.

“Fletcher’s been brilliant for the 18s this season, and obviously they won their league the other day. He’s contributed to over 30 goals in the 18s and he’s just turned 16. Just to get his debut is amazing, but to score, wow. He’ll never forget that.

“There’s a pathway at this club. The academy’s done amazingly well this year and it just shows if you’re good enough, you’re old enough. Hopefully it inspires the other boys.

“I told him he was in the squad yesterday. We obviously left him after Friday’s result to celebrate with his teammates a little bit and then we told him he’s in the squad and then I told him before we left that he’s on the bench.

“You could see what him getting on the pitch and getting a goal meant to the fans as well. The fans have been brilliant today, honestly. They were unbelievable. I know we’re obviously bottom six but for the fans to turn up like that and us to give a performance and let them sing the young boy’s name, ‘Fletcher Boyd is one of our own’, it’s a fairytale for him.”
