Stefan Gartenmann has joined the Dons on a season long loan from Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland.

The 26-year-old defender arrives on deadline day and brings the total number of summer arrivals to thirteen.

Gartenmann signed his first professional contract with Eredivisie side Heerenveen before returning to Denmark, joining Danish Superliga club SønderjyskE on a three-year contract in 2017.

Stefan was a cup winner in season 2019/20 when he lifted the Danish Cup, helping SønderjyskE to win their first trophy in the club’s history.

The Danish U21 international joined FC Midtjylland in 2022 on a three-year deal.

Manager Barry Robson is pleased to have brought in another quality defender ahead of the transfer window closing.

He said: “Stefan brings with him a European pedigree and has experience at right centre-back and right back which will offer us real versatility within the squad.

“He has a strong mentality, a real determination to do well and we believe he will be a positive addition given the number of matches which lie ahead this season.”

Eager to hit the ground running, Stefan is looking forward to a new challenge with Aberdeen.

Stefan will meet his new team-mates tomorrow as they prepare for the visit of Hibernian to Pittodrie on Sunday.
