Clarkson Commits Future to AFC
Leighton Clarkson has signed a four year-deal, joining from English Premiership side Liverpool FC for an undisclosed fee.
The creative midfielder, who made a lasting impression during his loan spell at Pittodrie last season, becomes Barry Robson’s second signing of the summer.
The 21-year-old made 29 appearances in a red shirt helping the team to a third-place finish in the cinch Premiership and securing European group stage football next season.
An England Under 20 International, Leighton progressed through the youth ranks at Liverpool and had a loan spell at his hometown club, Blackburn Rovers FC, before arriving in the north-east last summer.
A highly sought after young player, the return of Leighton further reinforces the Dons’ vision to be the best developer of talent in Scotland and was made possible by the AberDNA programme, which uses fan contributions to bolster our first team and development strategy.
“There is no doubt Leighton had a positive impact during his time with us last season and its hugely encouraging that he has now chosen this club as his home, and the best place for his continued development,” Dons boss Barry Robson said.
“He is a brilliant prospect and exactly the type of player we want here at the club. He’s young, hungry, and technically very good.
“He was much admired for the creativity he brought on the pitch and showed a real affinity with the supporters during his time at Pittodrie last season.
“We are shaping the squad up for playing both in Europe and domestically and will be looking to announce more new faces in the very near future.”
