Aberdeen Football Club confirms Head of Recruitment, Darren Mowbray, will leave the Dons on 1st July 2023 to join English Championship side Southampton FC.

Darren, who arrived at Pittodrie from Burnley FC in 2021, brought with him extensive knowledge of the UK and European player markets and oversaw significant change towards the recruitment strategy at the Club, helping to drive success on the pitch.

On Darren’s impending departure Director of Football, Steven Gunn, was keen to reassure supporters that this change would not impact summer recruitment plans.

He said: “We are obviously disappointed to be losing Darren but also see this as an acknowledgement of the work we’ve managed to carry out over the last two years.

“We have built a robust recruitment team and set of procedures that Darren himself has benefitted from across his time at the Club. That team and infrastructure remains in place, as does our desire to continue to improve.

“A significant amount of the work has already been undertaken by Darren and the team to identify and recruit our targets for the summer 2023 window and this development will not detract from that preparatory work.

“Work is already well underway to replace Darren and we will undertake a thorough process, similar to the one we carried out to find him initially.”

Everyone at AFC would like to thank Darren for his efforts during his time at Pittodrie and wish him the best for the future.
