Loren Campbell 100 Dons Appearances
The Celtic game on Sunday marked a landmark appearance for Dons captain Loren Campbell. The player was the first to reach 100 games for Aberdeen FC Women since their formation four years ago. Defender Campbell reflected on reaching the milestone of appearances and she looked back over the last four years.
“One hundred Aberdeen Women appearances, how did that even happen? The first appearance in our first ever match as AFC Women came against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Sports Village and it honestly feels like yesterday. That game was in the third tier and thinking in the lead up to the milestone of making appearance one hundred in the Premier League, for me is what matters the most. I am so proud that I get to represent this club back where it rightly belongs in the top flight of Scottish women’s football.”
Loren’s action-packed century of games includes consecutive league wins and promotions which saw the club move up from SWFL1 North to SWPL1. “It’s been a whirlwind of success since appearance number one, not just for me but for the whole team. The highs of back-to-back promotions and then cementing ourselves in the Premier League are all memories that will stay with me forever. I’ve truly enjoyed every minute of it as I’ve been lucky enough to share all this success with not only brilliant players but also great friends.”
The full-back, who was made captain at the start of this season, has been playing for Aberdeen since the age of 12 having been with Aberdeen Ladies prior to the club taking over the women’s team. Campbell turns 32 in May of this year which will see her playing twenty years after first representing the Reds.
“Making one hundred appearances in red is something I will forever be proud of … maybe if I count the previous Aberdeen Ladies appearances, I could even add a zero to this tally. To be the first Aberdeen FC Women’s player to reach number one-hundred feels so special. Fingers crossed I can keep adding to the tally for a wee while longer!”
