A Duk Dons double was enough to see off St Johnstone at Pittodrie as Aberdeen registered their first win since the World Cup break. He was understandably delighted with his day’s work.

“We needed this victory. It was a good atmosphere, a great day. We have fantastic fans and it was nice to give them something. It is important for a striker to score goals and I was so happy today that I could score two for them.

“I have always been a player that likes to fight hard with the big defenders. I think that is one of my strengths, so I like to play here. I always believe in myself. I work very hard to get better. If you want to develop fast, you need to do this every day. I work hard at Cormack Park and then I take care of myself when I am home. I still have many things to learn and a lot to develop. I cannot promise anything except that I will try and try to be better and better.”

Duk has swiftly become a cult hero at Pittodrie, and that relationship extends into the city too.

“The supporters are very good with me. When I am in the streets, in the city, people come and talk to me and this is very nice. It is a very different place for me to live, especially the weather, it is so cold! So it is good to feel so welcome.”

The Dons are at Hampden next Sunday for the League Cup semi-final against Rangers, an afternoon that Duk is already relishing.

“I look forward to next week, I think it is maybe the biggest game of my career so far. All the players want to play in big stadiums, in big games and I am very excited to go there and do a good job for Aberdeen. All players want to win trophies, that is a big reason I came here, so we want to win and get to the final.

“We know Rangers is a big club with good players but last month, we played a very good game against them and were unlucky with the result. I think we showed that we have the quality to go to Hampden and win.”
