Dougie Bell set for Hall of Fame Induction
After an enforced absence due to COVID we are excited to announce that the AFC Hall of Fame dinner will return for 2022 as we induct some more Dons legends on Wednesday 23rd November at The Chester Hotel.
In the 2019 edition of the Hall of Fame, Theo Snelders, David Halliday, Doug Rougvie, Eric Black, Gordon Strachan and Mark McGhee were inducted and this time round four more AFC greats will join them.
Last week we announced that ‘90s icon Duncan Shearer will be inducted this year and we can now reveal that Dougie Bell, one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most influential signings, will be joining Shearer in the ceremony at The Chester Hotel.
Signed on a free from St Mirren in 1979, Bell went on to become a vital part of the Aberdeen success in Europe throughout the early ‘80s, his direct running and natural ability were well suited on the European stage.
Unfortunately, Bell missed the 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final through injury but his part in the delivering that success was still a significant one, most notably with a terrific display in the 5-1 victory over Waterschei in the Semi-Final.
Over the course of a six year spell at Pittodrie Bell made 185 appearances scoring 14 goals and picking up plenty of silverware along the way, winning three League titles and two Scottish Cup’s in addition to playing his part in European Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup successes in 1983.
Over the next few weeks, we will be announcing two more AFC greats who will be inducted on the night.
The evening will yet again be a memorable occasion for Dons supporters, sponsors and partners alike, including a 3 course meal with wine included and a Q & A session with our inductees. Places for the event are priced at £119+VAT per person.
