Highly rated young defender signs contract extension

The Club is delighted to announce Youth Academy graduate Jack Milne has signed a new three-year contract and will now remain at Pittodrie until at least the summer of 2025.

The 19-year-old, who attended the SFA Performance School at Hazlehead Academy, joined the Youth Academy at Under 12s, aged 11 years old and was rewarded with full time contract in the summer of 2020.

The local Aberdeen lad played one year at Under 18s, before being loaned out to Highland League side Brechin City for first half of the 2021/22 campaign. He also impressed whilst playing for the Aberdeen B team in the SPFL Trust Trophy games.

He returned to Pittodrie during the winter break as work began with Jack on a change of position. The player, who was originally a central midfielder, then a holding midfielder, has now successfully been converted into a central defender and it looks like he has a big future ahead of him in that position.

Jack, who caught the eye of manager Jim Goodwin during pre-season, was handed his first team debut in the Premier Sports Cup game at Peterhead when he came on as a second half substitute. He also featured in Wednesday night’s win over Dumbarton.

The Dons gaffer is therefore very pleased to see such a promising young talent commit their future to the Club.

He said: “I’ve been really pleased with the way in which Jack has approached pre-season and his performances in the recent matches. He is a good athlete, with strong physical attributes, exactly the qualities we are looking for in our defenders.

“He displays the correct attitude and application to his work and at only 19-years-old still has much development to do but he’s an exciting prospect.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Jack’s continued development as part of the first team squad.”
