Welsh Internationalist becomes a Don again

Aberdeen Football Club this afternoon confirms the signing of attacker Marley Watkins on a two-year deal.

Marley joined the Dons on a loan deal from Bristol City last summer before returning to his parent club in November 2020 after picking up a long-term injury.

The forward made a huge impression during his brief spell at Pittodrie with his undoubted quality, making 13 appearances and scoring twice with his first goal coming against Ross County in September. The Welsh internationalist also provided numerous assists and his all-round attacking play led to some excellent Dons performances.

The experienced 30-year-old striker, who started his career in England, spent two seasons in Scotland at Inverness CT, before returning south to play for Barnsley and Norwich City. After leaving Bristol City this summer he spent a short period of time with fellow Championship side Cardiff City, where he played one game and scored two goals.

Arriving as the Dons new number 7, Marley is another important addition to the squad as manager Stephen Glass explains:

“I’m delighted Marley has chosen to return to the Club.

“In his previous spell at Aberdeen his influence on the team was enormous and we are looking forward to having him back in a red jersey. I expect the fans will be delighted to see him back with the Club.

“We have beaten off a lot of competition for him and I am sure he will enjoy a great reception upon his return to Pittodrie.”
