Charleston Primary nets 300 footballs in AberDNA competition

Every pupil at Charleston Primary School has won an Adidas football as part of the club’s AberDNA Junior membership initiative.

AberDNA Junior members were invited to register their school to win the prize following the launch of AFC’s free membership for under 12s last year.

Dean Campbell delivers the prize

Local lad, and current Dons midfielder, Dean Campbell delivered the 300 balls earlier this week, with 285 given directly to pupils and a further 15 presented to the school for use during PE lessons.

The prizes are the latest in a series of competitions organised by the club to engage local schools in AberDNA membership. King Edward Primary School have already been announced as the winners of the training session at Cormack Park.

Fans of the future

AFC commercial director, Rob Wicks, said: “AberDNA Junior is helping us to nurture the fans of the future by building on the excellent schools’ outreach work being carried out in the community by the Club’s charity partner, Aberdeen FC Community Trust.

“With the Trust now able to re-engage with school children, we’re thrilled to present this prize to Charleston Primary School and look forward to delivering for our other competition winners soon.”

AberDNA Junior

There are now more than 7,000 AberDNA Junior members, with each child entitled to two free match tickets during the 21/22 season, allowing them to enjoy a matchday experience at Pittodrie as soon as full crowds are allowed back into the stadium.

Further benefits to the scheme include the chance for young fans to follow in the footsteps of their football heroes and ‘Sign for the Dons’ during a behind the scenes experience at Pittodrie, as soon as it is safe to do so.

The Club hopes to invite AberDNA Junior members to “sign their contract” later this year and give youngsters a day they will remember forever.

In addition, AberDNA Junior members are able to enjoy experiences, events, prize draws along with discounts on AFC merchandise and match tickets.

Wicks added: “Our aim to be at the heart of our community, with a growing fan base, begins with our young people. Every Dons supporter remembers their first match and we want to give every child in the region the opportunity to have this experience and to be able to access top-flight football.”

Launched in 2018, the AberDNA programme has over 6,000 local, national and international members. All net income from AberDNA is used exclusively to support the football operation and AFC is aiming to grow this to 7,000 as part of its efforts to build a more sustainable club and to continue to invest in the development of young players through the youth academy.
