Hall of Fame 2019 | First Inductee Revealed!
We are excited to announce that the 2019 edition of the AFC Hall of Fame, sponsored by READ Cased Hole, is set to return on Thursday 21st November at The Chester Hotel.
Last year Eoin Jess, Peter Weir, Donald Colman and Bobby Clark were honoured with a new set of AFC greats set to be recognised this time round.
We can reveal that the first of those to be inducted this year will be iconic Dutch keeper Theo Snelders!
Theo started his career with FC Twente, before signing for Aberdeen in the summer of 1988 at the age of 24.
Theo was signed by Alex Smith and Jocky Scott to fill the gloves left by club legend Jim Leighton and soon became a cult hero with the Dons fans, with chants of ‘Theo Theo’ being heard throughout the country.
Theo played an integral part of an Aberdeen team that became one of the finest in the history of the club and was rewarded by his fellow pro’s in 1989 when he won the Scottish PFA Player’s Player of the Year, a reward for consistent outstanding performances in a Dons shirt.
Over his time at Pittodrie Theo made 227 appearances for the Dons and was part of many Dutch National squads, making his debut for his country in 1989 against USSR.
Theo’s finest moment came in the Scottish Cup Final of 1990, saving Anton Rogan’s penalty in Aberdeen’s penalty shootout win over Celtic to secure a cup double, having already defeated Rangers in the Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden the previous November.
Over the next few weeks we will be announcing more AFC greats who will be inducted on the night.
The evening will yet again be a memorable occasion for AFC supporters, sponsors and partners alike, including a 3 course meal with a Q & A session to follow with our inductees. Places for the event are priced at £109+VAT per person
