Aberdeen 5-0 Buchan Ladies | Lawsondale | Sunday 1st September, 3.30pm
Jessica Broadrick, Eva Thomson and Hutchison all started despite playing for Scotland under-17s less than twenty-four hours earlier. Eilidh Shore and Francesca Ogilvie had been away with the national team’s under-19s earlier in the week, Shore started this one whilst Ogilvie was on the subs bench.
Despite the concession of a first minute corner kick, Aberdeen immediately took control of the match. Hutchison almost opened the scoring after three-minutes, she rounded the keeper after picking up a Sophie Jamieson pass but her shot was cleared off the line by Buchan defender Christie Houston.
The home-side did get an early goal as they opened the scoring after six-minutes. Thomson’s ball into the area found JAMIESON in space and she calmly placed her right-foot shot beyond Lauren Sangster in the Buchan goal.
It could have been 2-0 in the tenth minute as the Reds continued their strong start. Jamieson’s ball across the face of the Buchan goal looked destined for the in-rushing Natasha Bruce but the midfielder just couldn’t get a touch on the ball with the goal gaping.
Loren Campbell then came close to doubling the Aberdeen lead as flashed a shot over the crossbar after getting on the end of a Shore pass. Caitlin Matthews had a shot wide from distance as Buchan made a rare foray out of their own half but they went 2-0 down as the Dons scored in the 26th-minute.
Shore pounced on a slack pass in the Buchan midfield and immediately slid a pass through the heart of the Buchan back-line. HUTCHISON collected the through ball and placed a low shot past Sangster to double her side’s lead.
A foul on Thomson just outside the area gave Aberdeen a free-kick in a dangerous position just two minutes after the second goal. Shore stepped up and fired a powerful low shot around the wall which Sangster did well to turn around the post.
The third goal wasn’t far away and it was Hutchison who did the damage again on 33-minutes. Kelly Forrest stepped into midfield with the ball before sending a dangerous through towards HUTCHISON. The Scotland Under-17s midfielder got on the end of Forrest’s pass before placing her shot passed Sangster for 3-0.
Natasha Bruce had a curling shot saved by Sangster before Hutchison flashed a shot across the face of goal following good build up play by Broadrick and Shore. The fourth goal of the game arrived after 39-minutes and it was the goal-of-the-game.
There didn’t appear to be any immediate danger as HUTCHISON collected the ball outside the Buchan penalty area. The teenager gathered the ball before crashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net to complete her hat-trick in style.

Aberdeen gave their hat-trick hero a well-earned rest for the second-half as Amy Phillips replaced Hutchison at the interval. Phillips almost had the chance to make an immediate impact as she just failed to get on the end of a Broadrick pass.
Buchan threatened on the counter on 51-minutes as Matthews found Michelle Sutherland to set up a breakaway but Bruce tracked back well to snuff out the threat. The action continued to be played in the Buchan half of the pitch as the Dons made it five just a minute later.
Shore had her ankle clipped as in the penalty area and the referee had not hesitation in award a spot-kick. SHORE picked herself up to take the penalty which she smashed high into the net giving Sangster no chance.
The visitors simply couldn’t get any possession as Aberdeen dominated the game and Buchan had Sangster to thank for keeping the score down. The Buchan goalie came off her line to deny Phillips a shot at goal before denying both Campbell and Shore.
Thomson and Broadrick were replaced by Sophie Brown and Francesca Ogilvie on the hour mark and the latter almost scored with her first touch of the ball. Ogilvie stood over a free-kick wide on the left and with the Buchan defence expecting a cross, she whipped in a shot which clattered off the near post.
Aberdeen had all the possession in the remainder of the match but they couldn’t add to their tally, thanks largely to Sangster in the Buchan goal. Ogilvie and Phillips were both denied by the keeper and Ogilvie had a fired a further couple of shots over the crossbar but the sixth goal never arrived and the league-leaders had to settle for a 5-0 victory.

REACTION
Bayley HUTCHISON: “It was good to get a hat-trick, I think we could’ve done better but it was a good win against a tough opponent. It was quite tough on my legs after playing for Scotland yesterday but I knew we had to go out and get the win today so I just got through it. It was a good experience being away with Scotland and good to play against top opponents and get a goal or two”.
Eilidh SHORE: “I’m happy with the score but I think we could have done better as a team, we needed to move the ball quicker and break them down more but you’ve got to be happy with a score like that. We played better with the ball than the last twice we played them this season and it was a better surface to play on. It was a tough game as we knew they would be physical and could be dangerous on the attack”.
