Aberdeen FC has this evening signed Greg Leigh on loan until the end of the season with an option for the club and the player to make the move permanent on conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign.

The left-back, who last year played in the Eredivisie with NAC Breda, has flown out to Cork to meet up with his new teammates and take part in the Dons pre-season training camp.

Leigh was born in Sale and joined the Manchester City Academy in 2004 after being scouted playing for amateur side Sale United. Dons right-back Shay Logan also came through the City Academy.

The former England under-19 international spent over ten years with the English Champions and made his debut for the senior side during a pre-season tour in the UAE against Al Ain in 2014. That summer he also featured for City in friendly games against Dundee, Hearts and Sporting Kansas City.

After joining Crewe Alexandra on loan in August 2014, Leigh made his senior debut against Barnsley. That season he made over 40 appearances in all competitions.

Leigh agreed a one-year deal with Bradford City in August 2015 before moving to Bury in 2016 aged 21, and he would go on and make over 100 appearances for the Gigg Lane side. After four seasons in League One Greg moved to the Netherlands last summer.

Pittodrie boss Derek McInnes said, “We’ve been aware of Greg for a while and in January, when it looked as though Max was staying at Derby, he was someone we were quite far down the road with.

“He’s versatile, gives us a bit of athleticism, has decent experience for someone with his best years ahead of him and he sees Aberdeen as the right move at this stage.

“There were a number of clubs in England keen to take Greg but I felt he bought into what we’re trying to do early on in our conversations.”

In total the 24-year-old has now made close to 170 senior appearances over the past five years.

Everyone wishes Greg well during his stay at Pittodrie.
