This Tuesday sees the Aberdeen Development Squad travel to Wick to face Wick Academy in Richard Macadie’s testimonial match.
Paul Sheerin’s side have been selected by Richard, who’s boyhood team were The Dons and the match marks 16 years of service to the Highland League Club.
Richard is the club’s leading goalscorer with 195 goals and since making his debut in August 2003 the attacking midfielder has gone onto make 527 appearances for The Scorries, which puts him second in the club’s all-time records. He has been an instrumental part of the club’s recent history, which included winning the Highland League Player of the Year in 2009. Another highlight in
Richard’s glittering career was being an instrumental part of the Wick side who won all 17 home games during the 2012/13 season, a record which has never been matched.
This will be the fourth time an Aberdeen side has travelled to Harmsworth Park in the far north of Scotland with the last meeting between the sides coming in March 1997.
Paul Sheerin’s side will include many of the club’s exciting young prospects with Bruce Anderson and Sam Roscoe, both of whom have been on loan at Championship sides this season expected to travel, as well as many of the players who have regularly turned out for the Reserve team this campaign.
The Dons Development boss was pleased to be able to bring a team to the Highlands to pay tribute to the Wick legend.
Paul Sheerin commented: “We’re delighted to have been asked to take part in Richard’s testimonial game, particularly as he is a big Aberdeen fan. Richard is exactly the kind of player who deserves such an occasion, a one club man who has been fiercely loyal to Wick Academy since making his debut sixteen years ago.
“It’s also an opportunity for the many Dons supporters in the area to see some of the excellent youngsters the club has breaking through at the moment with several of those travelling being regulars for their countries at various age group levels.
“We’re very much looking forward to the game.”
We would encourage any Dons fans in the area to get along to the match and support Richard on his big night.
Congratulations for your years of dedication and hard work Richard. Enjoy your night!
