Introducing our Scottish Cup Semi-Final Mascot
We are delighted to announce that ten year old Calan Baxter will lead out The Dons for this Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden. A huge Aberdeen supporter, the Kaimhill Primary 5 pupil will walk with out his heroes before they face Celtic, with a place in the showpiece occasion at the end of May up for grabs.
Calan participates in the Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) Footy Teas programme where school pupils enjoy a healthy snack along with some physical activity based around team work and communication.
The programme is just one of a number delivered by AFCCT and Partners Schools Coach, David Clark spoke more on why Calan has been selected as the team’s semi-final mascot.
“Calan has shown a consistency to work with the other pupils in the group by encouraging and demonstrating good manners around the snack table. Calan has been able to transfer these skills into the classroom where he is helpful towards his teachers and class mates. He is a big Dons fan and his favourite player is Shay Logan”
Although Calan already knew he would be mascot on Sunday, he was unaware that his favourite player Shay would be on hand to present him with his new Aberdeen strip when he came into Pittodrie for a tour with his Grandma last week. Some of Shay’s teammates were also present for some pictures as well as manager Derek McInnes and assistant manager, Tony Docherty.
The youngster was then able to head along to the AFC club shop to help print his name on the back of his new strip. Calan plays in defence for his boys club, Cove and although his number is usually 3 he wanted to get the number 2 on the back of his shirt in tribute to his favourite Aberdeen player.
Calan said “I can’t believe I got to meet my favourite player and Derek McInnes at the same time. My highlight today is meeting Shay Logan and the other players. I can’t wait for the game and I’m predicting a 2-1 win for Aberdeen.”
We can’t wait to see you at Hampden on Sunday Calan and lets hope your prediction comes true.
