DONS TOP SCORER SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION
Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove has signed a new deal with the Pittodrie club that will see him stay with the Dons until the end of season 2021-2.
AFC’s top scorer this season with nine goals, the 6’ 3” striker was delighted to get his future sorted out, “To be honest, as soon as the offer came through, it was never a matter of if I was going to sign it, it was just about getting things done as soon as possible. And while it’s great to have security for my future, I see it as an incentive to push on and showing what more I’ve got to come.
“We didn’t have the start to the season that we would have hoped for but the run that we’ve been on for the past month especially has put us in a great position going into the second half of the season.”
The 22-year-old, born in North Yorkshire, but brought up in Lancashire came through the Everton Youth Academy before joining Wigan Athletic. During his two seasons at the DW Stadium he had a number of loan spells. After being released by Wigan, he moved to Carlisle United in August 2017.
At the end of January last year he joined Aberdeen, with manager Derek McInnes impressed with the potential of the tall young striker. He was sent off on his debut for Aberdeen, a 2–0 defeat against Celtic on the 25th of February, but the Englishman returned to the side for the final four fixtures of the season and helped Aberdeen to secure second place in the Ladbrokes Premiership after a win over Celtic in Glasgow on the final day of the season.
