Adam Rooney | 100 goals in Scottish football

01 April 2017

Adam Rooney scored his 100th goal in Scottish football this evening against Dundee. This total includes 18 now for this season. After the game he spoke to RedTV:

“It has been a long time coming!

“Longer than I would have liked. And then Andy has stolen the deadlines with his hat-trick!

“It was a brilliant performance from start to finish. We totally dominated. I know we had the Motherwell game earlier on in the season, but this was probably the more complete performance and we probably could have had another couple.

“I think the fact we were disappointed to have conceded two goals against Motherwell when we scored seven goals shows the group of lads we have got here. Clean sheets are very important for confidence. We have had an awful lot in recent months. And then the seven goals show how good we are going forward. So, a great performance to come back to after the break and hopefully we can take that form into Tuesday night.

“I thought there was some great football tonight.

“Obviously that comes from getting the early lead and then getting a few more early on. Our confidence was up. Over the past few weeks we have maybe not that same level of performance on the ball but we have been grinding out results and making sure we have been getting the three points. That is the most important thing at this stage of the season but it is nice to score goals. We have goals throughout the team and that is very important. Even big Andy is chipping in!

“It was a great hat-trick. I would have been happy with it myself! He is a very popular lad in the dressing room, very underestimated by a lot of people outside the club. He is very solid at the back and very rarely has a bad game. I think he has threatened to score a few goals this season and he is delighted to get them tonight.

“I will tell you what my target is at the end of the season! I just want to keep scoring goals between now and then. If I am scoring goals then hopefully it means the team are doing well.”
