James Maddison ""an unbelievable feeling."
“It was an unbelievable feeling.
“It's what you dream of in the build up to the game. Obviously there was a lot of hype surrounding the game. You go through scenarios, well I do anyway, of scoring the winning goal late on and I'm buzzing with it.
“Exactly as I planned!
“At the end of the day, it's only three points but it feels like a lot more than that because of the hype and the press surrounding the game.
“I went on to change the game because the first half wasn't good enough the gaffer thought.
“It is always different coming on as a substitute. You never know what the game is going to be like. It was a tough game to come onto because it was one hundred miles an hour. It was a really quick game and the atmosphere was electric.
“I did not have my best personal performance but that was forgotten why I put the ball in the top hand corner.
“I knew at 1-1 if we got the chance to win the game we could. We got the free kick and I was happy to play my part in that.
“I was always going to take it!!
“Me and Niall McGinn have a bit of banter about who takes free kicks because we practise together. But he wasn't on the pitch so I didn't have him chirping in my ear! So I was always going to take that one. I practice free kicks a lot. I do it after training each day. It is something I want to master and I will keep practising each day.
“I don't get nervous. I was confident in myself and confident in my ability that I would be able to stick it away, and thankfully I did.
“I was disappointed to be left out as any footballer would be. I feel I've been playing well in my first couple of starts. I feel like I've made a contribution to the team. But sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and when I look back now the gaffer made the right decision by utilising the squad. We have a very good squad here.
“Substitutions have played a big part this week. The last three games, with players coming off the bench and scoring in each game, shows the quality that we have got and the depth we have got in the squad. It is healthy competition and it is paying off at the minute.
“I think we will look back and think this was a massive week for the club. After a disappointing draw at home to Inverness the manager made it very clear that this was a big week. We wanted six points and to be in a semi-final and we have achieved that.
“Rangers are quality side and we dug deep today. We sent a message out. We know with the squad we have got we can beat anyone on our day. We now look ahead to Kilmarnock next week.
“I have never scored a better goal! And I think it will be tough to beat that one. I really enjoyed it and I am really happy for myself and the team.
“The fans were brilliant today. As I say the atmosphere was electric. Every player will tell you that they want to play in big games in front of big crowds. I did not know too much about Scottish football before I came here but I am getting to know a lot more about it! I will be in for a good time if I keep scoring last minute winners.
“I know it is a cliché but the fans really were the 12th man today. Hopefully they will keep coming back. They honestly make a difference. They give you that extra little boost. You want to do it for them and thankfully we did that today.”
