Shay Logan | set to play his 100th game
SHAY LOGAN
If Shay Logan plays tomorrow then the right back will make his 100th appearance for the Dons. Before training he spoke to www.afc.cio.uk to preview the game against Kilmarnock on Saturday.
“It will be an honour to have played a 100 games for this club.
“I am pleased. I have been fortunate enough to have been an ever present since I have been here. I have just missed a few games here or there because of injury or suspension.
“If I had to pick a favourite game it would obviously have to be the cup final. Although the game itself was not great, what happened at the end was very special. There are other moments. When Paul Quinn scored the winner against Celtic it was a great feeling – the noise of the crowd and also because we were down to ten men. The atmosphere in the last Celtic game was also fantastic, especially when Simon scored.
“There are other games that for me personally were memorable. The game at Ross County, again because of the circumstances when we played most of the game with ten men. Scoring two goals and winning the game was a very good achievement. I could have had a hat-trick as well!
“My form this season, I think I started slower than last season but I feel I am right up to form now. I feel I have played well consistently for a few months so I am happy with the way things are going. I feel I am as confident going into games as I have been throughout my career. I go into every game really looking forward to it.
“After the disappointment of the last game against St Johnstone, the wins at Dundee United and Partick Thistle were massive. I told Simon before the game against United that I would set him up! I told him before the game, ‘you just get in the box, I will put it on your head’ and of course it happened that way. Simon has taken over Adam’s job and done what Adam does. Sometimes it might not look like he is doing much, but he works hard for the team and then comes up with a vital goal. He is a good poacher. Simon is a very nice lad and has fitted in very well. I have spent some time with him this week and he is a good lad.
“People talk about pressure. It is not something we think about. When you go onto the pitch you are just focussed on doing your job. Even if the league was not there, even if it was just a friendly, you would still want to go out and win the game. You would still want to go out and put in a good performance.
“Everyone is different. Everyone has their own things that motivate them in life. But everyone goes out and gives everything they have for the team.
“I think if you ask any manager or player, they would take playing badly but winning. In any game. Football is about winning. All sports are about winning. If you are a sportsman or woman winning is everything no matter what people say. The supporters who pay their hard earned money want to come along and see the team win.
“You have to take one game at a time. You have to. There is no other way of doing it. I think if you look at Leicester, they have been saying the same thing.
“You can never go in with the mind-set that you are a better team and should win a game of football. You have to go out and earn the win. You have to go out there and give 100% and perform on the day to get the result that we want. We know Kilmarnock will come up here and give us a really tough game. There is a lot for both teams to play for. They will have their own reasons for being determined for winning the game.
“The fans will have a big part to play. It is understandable when they get frustrated, for example when Partick went in front the other night. I would just ask that they are patient with the team during the game. The manager and the players know what is at stake and what is required and it is a 90 minute game. In each game there will be points when we are not on top but a game lasts for 90 plus minutes. Please just stick with us and we will see where we land up.”
