Andrew into the top 20 all time list
Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine made his 300th start for the Dons on Wednesday night in the 1-0 win over Dundee United. It was also his 333rd appearance which was significant as it equalled the number of appearances held by Stuart Kennedy, thus meaning Andrew moved into joint 20th place in the all-time AFC appearance list. He is the only current Aberdeen player to feature on the chart.
After the game against United at Tannadice Andrew spoke to RedTV.
It was a big win. It was especially a big win coming on the back of the St Johnstone game. That was a match we should have seen out but were unable to. So it was crucial we saw the United game out like we did and the boys were fantastic.
“The manager has made a big thing of us seeing games out.
“As I say we weren’t able to do it against St Johnstone recently. But it was 1-0 against Dundee United for a long time. It was backs against the wall time in the second half so it was crucial that the boys stood up to it – and we did. Every one of us coped with the long balls and got the result against a team who are fighting for their lives.
“The message from the manager at the start of the game was to come out and play at a good tempo and get in their faces and we did that.
“We probably should have had a few more goals. The Graeme Shinnie incident went against us but we also had some good chances in the second half to kill the game off which would have helped but in the end it was a great three points.
“Everyone did their jobs. The boys all worked very hard at closing people down. Look at work Niall did tracking players back. Simon Church was also doing the same.
“I thought we won the midfield battle and that was crucial.
“I thought Barry Robson came into that midfield area and was outstanding the whole game. At this stage of the season, we need a cool head like he has. He has been there and done it already. He is such a valuable player to have in the dressing-room and on the park. At training, the boys all learn off him, in terms of how professional he is on and off the park. The young players especially learn a lot from him.
“Even when he hasn’t been playing, Barry would still shouting and bawling at training! He would also help with free-kicks, corners, even when he’s not in the first-eleven. He’s heavily involved in everything. And he has been through this before, he knows what it takes to go on a cracking run in the league.”
“Last season’s experience will be valuable.
“It hurt us last year, withering away in the last few games. It wasn’t a nice feeling as we were within touching distance. We know we just have to keep our heads down, take it game by game and get the results we need. But look at some of the scores in England right now, with all the top teams losing. It’s a topsy-turvy league here too.
“Partick Thistle is almost like a game in hand and we’re fully concentrated on that now. Hopefully we can go there and get three points – we’d take another scrappy 1-0 but we know it will not be easy”
“As long as we can keep a strong squad fit, it’ll be massive for us. We need to keep that solid base for the rest of the campaign. We’ve a couple coming back, which is encouraging. Hopefully Jonny will be one of them. Jonny as everyone knows has been a huge player for us this season and since he arrived at the club.”
