Adam Rooney | "the win was the most important thing"

06 February 2016

“The most important thing was winning the three points.

“We knew coming here today that it would be a difficult but we just needed to get the win regardless of how the game went.

“We did not care as long as we came away with the three points. As I say it is always a difficult place to come especially after the match on Wednesday night against Celtic where the lads gave a lot. It was another heavy pitch so at the end of the day we are delighted with the result.

“My first goal was another trade mark strike from a yard out. In fact I think it was a yard and a half this time! I have just gambled and it was a good ball in by Shay and luckily I was in the right place.

“Cammy also deserves praise for the goal. I thought he was excellent today. We see it every day in training. He is one of the best players on the training pitch. He works hard and he has that composure in and around the box and it was a great ball to Shay.

“For my second goal I picked up the ball and then played to my strengths, I used my pace and my trickery to take on three players before slotting home! No seriously I just took the ball for a run and thankfully it has gone in at the end.

“We expected a reaction from St Johnstone and they came out strong at the start of the second half. As I say it is never an easy place to come. You never come here and run away with it. They always keep going to the end and they are dangerous from set pieces. They applied pressure but we just had to dig in. Thankfully we managed to hold on.

“The fact we had the two games maybe played a part in us conceded a couple of goals because the legs were a bit tired but the lads are a fairly fit bunch and the gaffer freshened it up a bit today as well. He brought in a couple of lads who done well. The goals we conceded were more down to the fact we were a bit sloppy as we did not pick up properly. It was a lack of communication and a lack of marking but we will look at that and improve and look forward to the next game.

“We now have two games coming up in five days so it is important we prepare properly which we will do. The lads now have a chance to recover and to get the right foods into them and put the legs up for a few days.

“We know there are tough games coming up but we look forward to them.”
