Ross County v Aberdeen | stats
The history of competitive fixtures between Ross County and Aberdeen is a short one and only includes league matches as the two sides have never faced each other in cup competition.
This will be only the 12th meeting of the clubs and the head to head is very even, with the Dons just edging in front after the 3-1 victory at Pittodrie late last year. AFC's record stands at 5 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats.
The first meeting between the clubs was a rather uninspiring 0-0 draw at Pittodrie in the summer of 2012. This was followed by three straight defeats for the Dons and they had to wait until December 2013 to record their first ever win. This came at Pittodrie in the last match of that year as the 1-0 win came courtesy of a brilliant Nicky Low free kick after only two minutes. This was only the second goal that Ross County had conceded to Aberdeen in five matches.
The Dons’ biggest win came in February this year when they recorded a 4-0 win at Pittodrie to keep them in second place in the league. Leading through an Adam Rooney goal at the interval, the Dons turned on the style after the break as Pawlett, Logan and Goodwillie added to the tally. Ross County recorded their biggest win earlier this season at Dingwall with a 2-0 win.
Aberdeen have scored a total of 14 goals in their ten matches with County and of the team’s different scorers, only Nicky Low has left the club. Niall McGinn scored the Dons’ first and only goal in the SPL, but since then Adam Rooney has become top scorer with four goals while Pawlett and Goodwillie and McGinn have two apiece.
Before the clubs met on official duty, there were many friendlies between them over the years. On October 17th 1995, Aberdeen travelled to Dingwall to help County unveil their new East Stand.
Former Don Brian Irvine scored in the 6-0 win. Four years earlier, the Dons were also on hand to see the Staggies open their new 1,000 seat Main Stand. Ross County actually played at Pittodrie for the first time in 1933 in the Scottish Qualifying Cup Final. They came up against Rosyth Dockyard and went down 4-1.
