Paul Quinn Post Match Quotes

12 September 2015

“It was great to get the victory. I feel the better team won in my opinion. The manner in which it all came about was extra pleasing. But at the end of the day it is no more than three points. We will let the dust settle on Saturday night and then focus on the Hamilton game and get back to work on Sunday. Everyone at the club is now has to focus on the Hamilton game.

“I know there were stories (in the press) in the build up to the game but I don’t think the bottle or character of the players was ever in question. To go down to ten men and to still win the game shows character. A lot of teams at 1-1 would sit in and take the point but we were still looking to go on and score against the Champions.

“We had to show no weakness especially as the game was at home. We have done that and now the game on Tuesday is at home so we have to do the same again.

“Just because we beat Celtic does not make it any more special. It is another three points. The game has gone, it is history and now the most important game is Hamilton on Tuesday. That is the way we need to look at it and see where it takes us. We have to be so focused for the game on Tuesday.

“We felt throughout the game we were getting joy at set-pieces. For my goal the ball has travelled a long way and fortunately for me it has landed in a perfect position. Lucky for me it went in! I don’t think you will see too many goals from myself this season but it is nice to make a contribution to the goal tally. I was just concentrating on making good contact and it has gone in.

“In the end I felt we probably deserved it.

“The feeling round about the club is every game we go into we can win. We want to win. That is the mood and that is the direction we are going in. We leave talk of doing more than that to others. We are just looking to bridge the gap that was there last season. That is improvement. That is what every team and every player in the country looks to do, improve each season and we are no different. We will then see where that takes us but there is still a very long season ahead of us.

“I cannot talk about the games against Celtic last season because I was not here last season. I was at Ross County and all I can tell you is that we won a point after draw a game! Last season is in the past. All we can do is talk about this season. We are maturing as a team and we want to get better, we want to get better every day. We will look for improvement throughout the season.

“Like I say we go into every game trying to win and we will see where that takes us. I have never gone into any game since I was 12 not believing or thinking I could win. You have to do that as a player. I can vouch for the other lads that they are exactly the same. Any game we play this season we will look to win and believe we can win and that goes without saying. That of course does not mean you are going to win every week but we believe in ourselves. We believe in each other. We believe in what we are instructed to do. It is important we get as much belief as we can so we can make strides forward.

“The supporters played a massive part in the win. They could see we were on top before Jonny got sent off. They then allowed us to carry that momentum forward for the next 20 minutes or so even when we had ten men and that was vital.

“We did not want ‘I told you so stories’ from people. The manager mentioned that at half time and it was important he mentioned that. You could feel we were going to do everything in our power to stop that from happening. That is personal pride. We have a dressing room full of players that have a lot of pride in what they do day in day out.”
