UEFA Europa League | the draw
Aberdeen will find out tomorrow their Europa League opponents at the draw which will take place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The process will start at noon and will be streamed live on the UEFA official website www.uefa.com.
The first qualifying round draw will be made at 13.00CET (12.00pm UK time) with the second qualifying round draw at 14.30CET (1.30pm UK time).
UPDATE Monday 11.30am:
Our possible opponents have been confirmed this morning as:
Bala Town FC (WAL)
KF Shkëndija (MKD)
SJK Seinäjoki (FIN)
Glenavon FC (NIR)
Víkingur (FRO)
Aberdeen will be seeded for the First Round draw but not the Second Round draw. The first round draw will include 102 teams. Ties will be played on Thursday, July 2 and Thursday, July 9.
The draw for the second qualifying round will see additional teams enter to join the 51 winners from the first qualifying round. These ties will be played on Thursday, July 16 and Thursday, July 23.
Should we get any more information regarding the draw from our representatives in Nyon this evening or in the morning we will post it on afc.co.uk and we'll have full news of the draw and reaction on RedTV and afc.co.uk.
On the eve of the draw Derek McInnes told RedTV:
“I am excited but there is also a bit of anxiety as you want the draw to be kind to you in terms of location and logistics.
“You want somewhere that is easily accessible to the supporters. We know that we have supporters that will travel wherever the team play but it would be nice to play somewhere that is easy for supporters to get to. Especially when there is such a short time scale to organise travel arrangements.
“We will train on Monday morning and then we will all come in, have some lunch and watch the draw together like we did last year in Ireland.
“We are looking forward to seeing who we get.
“We want to do as well as we can in the tournament. Once we know who we have got all the staff will very quickly get to work to get to know our opponent. Thankfully we have the software available which will allow us to watch some of their games and we will also maybe get the chance to go over and watch them if they have a game the weekend prior to the match. We also though have to make sure we are ready ourselves for the tie.
“We enjoyed the experience last season of being in Europe. I think the supporters had some good trips and some good memories. We brought in over 50,000 supporters for the three home games which was fantastic.
“We are well aware of the potential financial rewards for the club but for the players it is more about getting that big game experience. That is why the players work so hard to get involved in Europe. That is why it is never a chore to come back so early even though it is not ideal. It is a consequence of having done well.
“The intensity of the European games and the need to turn things around so quickly puts pressure on everyone at the club to make sure we are ready for every game. I enjoyed the stimulation of getting to know our opponents and doing our work so what the players needed to know was there for them.
“There is a long challenge ahead of us this season but the first challenge is to get the players fit and ready for the first European game.”
