AFC Primary Schools Additional Support Needs Football Festival 2014
Aberdeen FC Community Trust, in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council and Sport Aberdeen, delivered a very successful Primary Schools Football Festival for children with additional support needs on Thursday 13th November 2014 at Aberdeen Sports Village. Students from Moray College organised and ran the day which included 4-a-side small sided games and a skills zone where children could learn new techniques at fun stations.
Seven primary schools from across Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire attended and a great day was had by all. The pupils were delighted to meet some of the AFC professional players and community coaches who came along on the day to help the pupils at the coaching stations and show off their skills. The pupils particularly enjoyed scoring goals against the players which included the club captain Russell Anderson, Nicky Low and Craig Murray. The day was rounded off nicely when Angus the Bull made an appearance to hand out prizes to all participants!
Caitlin Dudley, Disability Sports Officer for Aberdeenshire Council said: “this is the second year that this festival has ran and it was great to see an increase in the number of schools taking part.
“A huge thank you must go to the students from Moray College for organising and running the day so efficiently; the skill stations they created were really fun and educational. Our thanks also go to the AFCCT Staff and AFC players for being able to come along on the day to inspire the pupils.”
Scottish FA and AFCCT Coach Scott Duncan added: “We were delighted to support this event again this year, the pupils who attended really seemed to enjoy the day and build confidence from learning new skills and being exposed to fun games.
“We are currently looking into the possibility of expanding the ASN Primary Schools programme as we feel increasing the activity in this area would really benefit the pupils in these schools.”
