Niall McGinn on RedTV

24 October 2014

Niall McGinn will hit the milestone of 100 appearances if he plays against Motherwell on Friday night. He chatted to RedTV on Thursday:

“I think when you look at the whole performance (last Friday) it was poor. We knew Hamilton are a very hard working side and would try and put us under pressure so we would make mistakes and they would then hopefully capitalise from them – that is pretty much what happened on the night.

“It was very disappointing watching the game on the sidelines because you want to be on helping the lads. I did get on for the final 20 minutes but we could not create many openings and they ran out comfortable and deserved winners. Our performance on the night was not good enough.

“If you look back at our recent form it has not been too bad so we must not get too concerned.

“I can understand the fans frustration. They are paying good money and travelling long distances most weeks, in the case of last week having to travel down on a Friday night to Hamilton. We know ourselves that we have to put in a performance every week for them. Sometimes that does not always happen but we must give them a 100% battling performance and not be out fought.

“We know that is we can go on a winning run of three, four, five games then we can climb the table. At the moment it is still very tight. It is a good league to be involved in this season, it would be an even better league to be involved in if we can get a winning run going again. At the moment it does not matter if we win games by playing ugly or by playing good football, we just need to get back to win ways on a consistent basis. We need to get back to clean sheets as well.

“Motherwell have not being doing great of late but we know they are a good side. On their day they can beat anyway. Their team is still filled with talented players. We have to be aware of their threat but hopefully we can bounce back from our defeat last Friday.

“With the game being live on TV and a big crowd expected we want to put on a performance.

“I was not aware Friday night would be my 100th appearance if I do play until yesterday when Tony Docherty mentioned it. It is a great milestone to hit for such a great club. I have only been here for just over two years now so to hit the 100 game mark so quickly is obviously pleasing for me. I have some family coming over for the game so it will be a special occasion.”
