Elgin City 0 Aberdeen XI 2

05 August 2014

Clark Robertson returns to action

An Aberdeen XI travelled up to Borough Briggs to play Elgin City this evening. In the starting XI for the Dons was Clark Robertson – the defender playing his first game of the season. The Aberdeen management team will have been pleased to see the left back comfortably come through the hour or so he was on the park. Jefferey Monakana also played an hour of the game and he really impressed at times.

As for the game itself, Aberdeen played some excellent football and probably should have won by more than two goals.

The first one come on 22 minutes after an excellent through ball by Jamie Masson. He slipped it to Lawrence Shankland and the striker buried it. The second goal came straight after the break.  Substitute Craig Murray, who had come on for Cammy Smith at half time, put over a great cross. He held it up nicely for Shankland to get on the end of it. Lawrence then hammered the ball across the face of goal and it looked like the ball clipped a defender before going over the line but like all good strikers Lawrence was claiming it!

Paul Sheerin told RedWeb after the game “. I thought tonight it was as good as it has been during the pre-season games. We played a lot of nice stuff and there were some very pleasing performances.

“We had a lot of good possession and kept the ball well against a decent side. It took us a little while to settle as the team was a mixture of young and older boys but once we did I was very happy with their efforts.

“We created a number of good chances and it was just the final ball of a few occasions that let us down.

“I am very pleased with the work all my players have put in over the pre-season campaign.”

His U20 side begin their SPFL Development League season against Hibs on Monday 11th August at Glebe Park, Brechin. The match kicks off at 6pm.
