It was great to celebrate with the fans

Goalscorer Jack MacKenzie enjoyed Aberdeen’s emphatic win at Ibrox, but looked back to the UEFA Conference League game in Germany as the catalyst for making it happen.

“We had a slow start to the season, but in Frankfurt, a lot of good things came out of the performance. We matched them, we had chances, and they’re a top side who were in the Champions League last season and won the Europa League the season before.

“From there, we took that belief into the two Ross County games, won them and so we went to Ibrox excited about the game. We had a similar gameplan to the one that worked in Frankfurt and I felt we implemented it really well.

“When you play Rangers or Celtic, you need to frustrate them and the crowd because their fans do play a part. If things are going well, the crowd pushes them on, so you have to give them nothing to get excited about and try to get them on their own side’s back.

“We know how tough it is to win here, so top come away with a 3-1 is very pleasing. It was brilliant to be among the goals as well. I’ve only scored once before, so it was nice to double the tally!

“It was great to celebrate with the fans. The support we get is unbelievable. Over in Frankfurt, up in Dingwall on Wednesday night, down here today, full houses at Pittodrie, they are a massive help to us.”
