“It was a battle.

“It was a tight pitch and both teams got after each other. I enjoyed it. It was competitive which was good, from two young groups.

“I thought when we got our noses in front, we may have just edged it. The more the game goes on the more hope you have that you can hold onto the lead.

“We were a bit frantic with some of our defending at times, but I thought we maybe had done just enough to the see the game out.

“The goal we lose, there are a couple of bits in it that we could have dealt with a bit better. You need composure in those areas, just as much as you need composure in front of goal at certain times of the game.

“The biggest thing was the game management.

“You have players flying about all over the place and in areas they don’t need to be. Players in the midfield areas need to sit and see the game out but their enthusiasm to get after the ball and affect the game in other areas has maybe been our downfall today. These are young players and it is a side of the game they need to learn. There is nothing wrong with winning 1-0, and not worrying about trying to nick another one at that stage of the game.

“Coming away from the game, that is what I will stress to the players most – game management. It is something we speak about a lot. But we had a lot of young players in there today. So it was good experience for them.

“Ethan had a good chance to get a second, but I think the pitch caused the ball to bobble up. I am maybe being kind to him! But his ability to get in those areas, and his composure for his goal was brilliant. He creates opportunities for himself out of nothing. You love it when you see him facing up defenders and going and being positive. That is what you want your players to do in the final third – be expressive.

“It was good to get Seb Ross back out there today. To get an hour under his belt was pleasing.

“It has been a very frustrating season for Seb. He has had niggling injury after niggling injury and has never got a run of games. He has not been able to perform at Stenhousemuir to the levels we know that he can perform. He can hopefully help them battle to stay in the league and they will hopefully have him from now until the end of the season. It would be good to see him remain injury free and get a couple of goals. But it was great having him back in my team today. I love having him around. You see his qualities and his work ethic.

“Miko just rolled his ankle and hopefully it is nothing too serious.

“It would be nice to go and get four wins in our remaining fixtures.

“But the most important thing is now to try and bleed in the younger ones into the reserves and see how they do. If we can manage that, that will be a positive way to finish the season.”
