Defender joins the Development Squad
The Aberdeen FC Development Squad have this afternoon completed the signature of Jordan McGregor.
The central defender, who has been on trial at Pittodrie since becoming a free agent when he left Airdrieonians at the end of last season, has impressed in the recent SPFL Reserve League wins against Ross County and Falkirk.
Jordan began his career with Hibernian, before moving to Hamilton Academical then Airdrieonians. He has also had loan spells at Berwick Rangers and Airdrie. The 21-year-old, originally from Falkirk, made his first team debut for Hamilton in a 3–0 victory against St Mirren in the League Cup in July 2016.
Jordan told afc.co.uk how the move came about:
“When I got asked to go up to Aberdeen it really excited me as I was still looking for a club. I was just wanting to get back playing and enjoying my football. When the opportunity arose to come here, I was dying to show everyone what I could do.
“As soon as I walked through the door Paul Sheerin and all the young boys made me feel really welcome.
“It also helped with me knowing Michael Devlin and Lewis Ferguson. I was quite close to them at Hamilton. I played a lot with Lewis at U20 level. He is great player and has done so well since arriving in the summer, playing in the first team straight away, especially at his age is an impressive achievement.
“Michael was my captain and I made my debut for the first team playing alongside him. He is a great guy and I am so pleased he got his move here.
“I really enjoyed playing in the two reserve games. I felt I did ok and it was good to get two clean sheets. There is a lot of talented players in Development Squad this season and I am looking forward to trying to help the team.
“I have been given a fantastic opportunity here and it is now up to me to make the most of it. I am away from home now, so I can just focus on my football and put everything that has happened in my career up to this point behind me. I will work really hard and give it my very best shot.”
Everyone at the club wishes Jordan all the very best during his time at Pittodrie.
