“We have some good young boys who will be knocking on the door next season. With the bigger squad, they have not maybe been involved with the first team squad as much this season but that has meant they have been playing regularly for the U20s.

“Bruce Anderson is one I have been very impressed with. Any time he trains with the first team, he always does very well. He’s a natural goalscorer. Seb Ross is a very good player, still young and learning the game. There are others as well. You would like to see three, four, five of these boys moving into the first team squad.

“Getting to the Youth Cup final is a great achievement and they were pushing hard in the league as well until the final weeks of the season. For them it is all about getting their foot in the door and impressing when they can. Sometimes you need that bit of luck to get your opportunity, but it is all about taking it when it comes along”.

“I want to finish my time at this club on as much of a high as possible. Of course I wanted to walk out at Hampden in my final game but that is gone now. We have finished second every season I have been here. But doing that this season would top the rest of them, because it has such a challenge with Rangers and Hibs and it has been such a hard season. We have got ourselves into a good position. We do not want to throw it away now.”

Plus: Derek McInnes, Richard Gordon, Chris Antoniazzi Q&A, Chris Crighton, FPs interview with Dougie Bell, a comprehensive history section with new photos from our extensive archive, another superb cover design from Dolly Digital, Graeme Shinnie, stats section and we look back at the Spring of 1984:

“That was as good as we have played all season” so said manager Ferguson after he watched his team dismantle a Dundee Utd side that were simply outclassed. United’s defensive outlook was crushed after Doug Rougvie opened the scoring in ten minutes. Mark McGhee added as a second as the Dons took control. Eric Black ended his own personal scoring famine with a typical header in 63 minutes to round off a superb Aberdeen performance as they hit their Tayside rivals for five. The Dons also brought on both Billy Stark and Peter Weir as second half substitutes as both returned from injury. Aberdeen were edging ever closer to the title and after demolishing Dundee United the Dons were firmly in control although they had some catching up to do with the heavy fixture schedule.
